What to have - Bucket of rocks - When Lizzy Was Afraid of Trying New Things by Inger Maier

What to do Show children a bucket of rocks. Take one out, and tell the children about something new that you have tried. Then invite each child to take a rock and talk about something new he has tried. If a child has nothing new to share, help her find a fast and easy new thing to do, like making a funny face or a strange sound. Tell children that trying new things means a change from the old, and it can be scary for some. Let them know you are going to read a story about Lizzy being afraid. Read and discuss When Lizzy Was Afraid of Trying New Things by Inger Maier.

Why To reflect on times when children tried something new. To encourage risk-taking. To practice sharing in a group.
