Many early childhood teachers find themselves hurled into an administrative position. In this book, Gigi assists teachers in framing their new role with language they resonate with—meaning, she makes clear connections between the characteristics they might use to define their work with children and translates what those strengths mean as they embrace their new administrative role.

Being a Supervisor provides opportunities for a supervisor to learn new skills and, most important of all, to use him or herself as their own best resource. As we have been learning in Powerful Interactions conversations, being a learner allows a leader to create ripples of positive change that ultimately support teachers, young children, and their families. Gigi is always open to learning and in this book, she engages readers as a partner in a learning conversation that will promote the well-being and learning of everyone in a program.

Gigi Schweikert is one of my favorite writers—she speaks from real life experience, cuts right to the chase, and uses humor well to enliven her messages. Being a Supervisor touches on a critical role. Study after study has confirmed that the quality of supervision in a center has a direct impact on quality of care. Gigi provides a healthy mix of self-evaluation, reflection tools, and practical advice current or would-be supervisors can put immediately into practice.

Packed with practical advice, Being a Supervisor will bolster your confidence and help you become respected supervisor in your early childhood program.

Education leadership is perhaps the most rewarding and at times most frustrating role anyone can have. Being a Supervisor is clear, honest, inspirational, and above all things, deeply human. In short, all of the traits of a great leader. This is a great book and a vital tool for any supervisor or aspiring supervisor who wants to do the best for their students now and in the future.

The eight concepts in this book will help people new to supervision roles and it will give food for thought for those more experienced. As I read this book, I could hear Gigi talking to me as only she can. It's like having a private mentoring session!
