About the Author:

Dave Riley, PhD, began working as a Head Start Assistant Teacher in East Los Angeles in 1972 and has several years' experience as a Head Start educational consultant. He has taught at the community college and university levels, including the last two decades at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he is the Rothermel-Bascom professor of human ecology in the Development of Human Development and Family Studies and Child Development Specialist for the University of Wisconsin-Extension. His published research has investigated parent-child relations, parenting education, and early care and education, including two earlier books by Redleaf Press. He was the co-director of the Wisconsin Early Childhood Excellence Initiative and the Wisconsin Child Care Research Partnership. He is a father.
